Clay by nature is a plastic medium. Its materiality and the visual effect of a glaze and firing have endless appeal. It also lays claim to a formidable history.

For some time now I have situated my work around one of those histories by taking a revisionist approach to the porcelain figurine.

The use of plaster moulds and slip casting are central to the making process. In that, the mould lends itself to mass production, or, the 'multiple', wherein groups allow relationships to form.

More importantly, the 'cast' embodies the notion of the 'copy', as Baudrillard terms the - precession of simulacra - the copy without an original.
