Sharon was born in South Africa. She received a B.A. degree in the Theory and Practice of Art and Art History from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. She was awarded the Henri Lidchi prize for Art History when she graduated.

As a student Sharon was involved in anti-apartheid activities and lived on mission hospitals in rural areas of South Africa where she produced silkscreened health posters for nutrition education, running a not for profit stall to introduce foods to prevent malnutrition such as kwashiorkor, to the local people and encouraging mothers to breast feed their infants.

Sharon left South Africa in the 1970s.

These paintings are part of a series of recent works, where Sharon is drawing on her early love and memories of Africa and its people.

Sharon wants to convey the powerful forms, strength of pattern, and vibrancy of colour found in cultures of Africa as well as references to recent social history. She is focused on the formal visual values of painting: (shape, pattern, texture, mark making and colour) to create a strong visual experience for the viewer.

Sharon has participated in many art group exhibitions over the years, including at One+2 Artist Studios from 2005 to the present.
